About William Young
William Young (c.1610-1662) was an English composer and viola da gambist.
He was in the service of Archduke Ferdinand Karl at Innsbruck by 1652, when he visited Italy with him. A renowned performer, he helped to popularize on the continent the English manner of playing the viol lyra-way. His music is mostly for viol; it includes fantasies in the English style and sonatas and dances reflecting German and Italian influences.
