About The Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins are an American alternative rock band from Chicago. The band was formed in 1988 by Billy Corgan and James Iha, with bassist D'arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin joining shortly after. Despite going through many lineup changes, the current lineup is identical to the original, with the exception of Wretzky, who would end up leaving the band just before their initial breakup in 2000. Disavowing the punk rock roots of many of their alt-rock contemporaries Read more on Last.fm

Pumpkins have to two great albums that should be in any 90’s collection. Those would be Siamese Dream and Of course this one. Skip the rest of their catalog 👍
  • Arguably The Best Smashing Pumpkins Album

This has to be the best album The Smashing Pumpkins has ever put out. Don’t get me wrong, ATUM is a great epic, and Pisces Iscariot is a neat collection, but if I had to recommend only one Smashing Pumpkins record, it’s gotta be Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness. Rockers, atmospheric melodies, soaring music - there’s such a wide variety of music here. Even ATUM, a triple album with 33 tracks, can’t compare to the 28 presented here (but is a competent record as well as being something of a pseudo-threequel). Long story short, if you had to start with any SP album, definitely start here. Put bluntly, it’s ablsolutely amazing. Highlights: “1979”, “Bullet With Butterfly Wings”, “Zero”.

I think this is the album where the Smashing Pumpkins hit their peak. Everything after this is hit or miss. An excellent record.

These songs would sound great if they were sung by someone without a whiny, nasally voice. The instrumental parts of the songs are terrific. Corgan should have let someone else be the singer in SPs.

I want to say thank you for the amazing guitar rift which turned into Slow Down by why dont we. As a limelight for life, it’s really cool how they used your sample. I love this song so much though. It’s such a bop 🔥🔥🔥
