About Funeral for a Friend

Funeral for a Friend is a post-hardcore band from Wales. They formed in 2001 as a sextet called January Thirst. This did not last long, and in 2002 Funeral for a Friend recorded their debut EP Between Order And Model with their original 6-piece line up. After having been together for just a few months, the band changed their line up and subsequently signed a deal with Warner Brothers records for whom they recorded their second EP Four Ways To Scream Your Name. This album is well-made, and all, but it's a bit too generic. It seems like I've heard all of these songs thousands of other times bya hundred other bands, musically and lyrically. overall, it's a decent experience.

The first song i had heard from this band was Recovery and i was just hooked after that intro riff. For guitar players, this album is just full of interesting guitar licks and tapping that are fun to learn. For the music enthusiast, this band is just amazing and this is definitely their best work.

This is one of my all time favorite albums, and definetly FFF's best album. The lyrics on this and the sounds speak to you.

  • Streetcar: One of my favorite songs

I heard Streetcar the first time on Madden '06. It's one of those songs that you hear and then it just kind of sits in the back of your head nagging at you. I finally came to iTunes to buy it and I am very happy I did. It seemingly makes no sense when you see the lyrics without the music, but it just kind of makes sense when you hear the way it's sung. The album cover is really deep and at first seems absurd (a high schooler wearing a bullet proof vest to school?), but when you think about it, what with all of the violence and shootings at high schools recently (sort of), it makes sense. It might be a bit of overdoing it but it is imaginable: What to wear today, hmm, skirt, shirt, coat, Kevlar, a touch on the hair... It is rather sad. Enough ranting. GREAT ALBUM.
