Amazing album, not recommended for "casual listeners" (some friends said described it as "creepy" and "weird")

Music is math makes me get the vision of a man riding his bike through a smoke-filled steampunk City surrounded by grey-suited businessmen. The overall vibe is very open and spacey. Loving it

This album is the most twisted and most thought provoking piece of music I've come across thus far. From start to finish this composure never fails to raise the hairs on the back of your neck. When it isn't doing that, it seeks to expand that pea-sized piece of matter you call a mind. This album is beyond what most consider music and into the realm of the ethereal. Worth at least one listen from start to finish if you're the type that enjoys complex audio-scapes.
  • Perfect amount of dark.

I’ve been listening to Boards of Canada for years now. This is definitely their darkest album overall. It gives you that warmness from the analog synths and samples. This is probably their most technical album.

After the success of their first LP and the departure of their third member, Christopher Horne, the two brothers; choosing to keep different last names so they wouldn't get heavily compared to acts like the Chemical Brother; decided to take an ominous direction in their next record. In an interview after the release the brothers said they were fascinated with the stories connecting Charles Manson with the Beach Boys and the rumored brainwashing cryptic messages in some of their music. This idea became the basis for both their EP "In A Beautiful Place Out In The Country" and this album. As you listen to this record there are times of peace and tranquility but suddenly shifting becoming demonic though there is always a balance between the two sides. This album took time to grow on me and even today I find a hard time listening to some tracks because there is a sense of urgency and even discomfort which I'm certain is intended. There is always something familiar in their music but at the same time they experiment and find new ways to get the ears to tingle. Not at the top of my list but definitely an album I keep coming back to.
