The US Coast Guard Band has done the work that other service bands couldn't do. It is rare for them to travel outside the US, but when they have in the past it's been for remarkable causes. In June 1989, the Coast Guard Band toured Leningrad only months before the fall of the Berlin Wall. As part of the DOT at the time, they were able to go at such a crucial moment when the other service's bands could not. I've done numerous comparisons in the past year of the US Coast Guard Band along side President's Own, Pershings Own, and all the Academy Bands; hands down US Coast Guard has recruited the most special instrumentalists and should be considered the Premier Music Ambassador's from the US to the world!
