Linda Ronstadt was a great singer. And she was in it for the music. When she got tired of being a Rock star she decided to move on and experiment. What I like about her is that she was true to herself. Not for the industry. Wish more singers would follow her example. She was one of the greats. I feel bad that she is unable to sing anymore that is very hard for her when her love of life was music and singing . And it showed.

Brings tears to my eyes with her voice. Simply the most beautiful voice I’ve ever heard.

The horizon on her singular, emotion-laden voice has narrowed to where she can no longer sing like this ~ she had a great run, though ~ and I feel so lucky to have been around since her time with the Stone Ponies. Love to you, Miss Linda....

No doubt, Linda Ronstadt possessed one of the great voices ever in any of the genres she chose songs from. There are a few of her most outstanding songs here, but also too many missing gems and even a few songs that are totally puzzling inclusions—lackluster compositions and vocals not her best. Even some of her best known songs are sometimes overrated. She had a tendency to choose a mediocre song or even a good one and just overdo her vocals—pipes without real feeling, kind of showbiz performances instead of ones with heart. “Heat Wave,” for example, is a song she basically yells her way through, no authentic guts or nuance to it, until near the end when she lets out this thrilling “whoooooooo,ooooo-oooh!” that feels so real and capitalizes on her powerful voice. Most galling absences in this album are more soulful songs and country songs that reveal what her voice could do with a bit more restraint and real feeling: “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore,” “I Never Will Marry” (with Dolly Parton) and “When Will I Be Loved” being songs that deserve to be on this collection much more than half the songs that are here. In general, I feel like LR was always a singer with a fantastic voice who too often chose the wrong songs or didn’t deliver them with the vocal treatment they needed. Still, her voice was a treasure when used to best advantage.
  • Greatest Hits, but no Desperado?

Some complain because Long, Long Time is missing. I can't believe it's also missing Desperado. This is one of three Linda Ronstadt's Greatest Hits albums I've come across. Each is missing several of her best songs.

  • Overplayed cover singer

If you lived through this time you'll know her biggest hits drove your to insanity because they were so overplayed. It's So Easy is a particularly unbearable cover. A good singer with below average original material - hence a career dependent on cover versions.
